Who are Powerchairs for?

Individuals with a chronic condition affecting their mobility or the elderly. Powerchairs are sometimes known as electric wheelchairs, they are easier to manoeuvre compared to manual wheelchairs. Powerchairs would help users with a weak upper and lower body, some users might not have the upper body strength to push a manual wheelchair or they might want more independence(and not rely on an attendant). Individuals who are not able to use a mobility scooter or a manual wheelchair can opt for a powerchair instead. Powerchairs are much easier to use and are a great option for users with weak muscles or bones, or limited mobility. Powerchairs also tend to do better indoors compared to mobility scooters, which means Powerchairs can be more suited for individuals looking for an indoor mobility solution.

What to consider when buying a Powerchair

There are many factors that would affect the user’s experience with a powerchair. Users would need to think about where they want to use their powerchairs (indoors/outdoors/both?) because powerchairs are designed to incorporate different features to make them more efficient under certain environments. For example, users might want to consider buying a more compact and foldable powerchair if they would like to use it indoors but also store it in a car to be used outdoors, or users might want Powerchairs that can go over small debris easily and that would mean they would require powerchairs with larger drive wheels. Users might want to consider the suspension and seat in the powerchair if they want to prioritise comfort. Some Powerchairs are plane-friendly and can be used to travel abroad.
