Who are Eating Aids for?

Eating and drinking aids are ideal for the elderly, the visually impaired and people who suffer from tremors or arthritis. Some of the eating aids make things like cutting or scooping your food much easier whilst blending in with the rest of your cutlery or crockery, while some drinking aids reduce the risk of spillage and are easier to hold than standard mugs and cups. They can be especially good for people suffering from dementia, Parkinson’s or other mobility issues.

Types of Eating Aids

Accessible Cutlery

Ergonomically shaped cutlery handles are ideal for people who suffer from restricted dexterity and low wrist strength. They feature finger indents and profiled grips which require less hand/wrist strength and allow for more accurate control and cutting. There are other types of accessible cutlery such as the Easy Grip Knife which features an angled handle, keeping your wrist in a natural position when cutting food or Self Opening Scissors which automatically open as you cut with them, making for much easier and more accessible use.

Bibs & Aprons

Washable and waterproof bibs and aprons protect people with restricted mobility from spillage when eating or drinking. The bibs are made from absorbent cotton with a PVC underlayer which stops spills getting onto clothes, while the aprons feature an antibacterial coating to maximise hygiene.

Sloped & Hi-Vis Plates

Sloped plates for the elderly, the visually impaired or for people who struggle with hand control whilst eating feature a high back and low front which lets food slide forwards, allowing for much easier scooping and visibility. Plates with high-contrast colours around their rims are easy to see and are great for the visually impaired and people who live with dementia.

Non-Slip Mats

Non-slip mats provide double-sided grip to ensure items plates and cups don’t move around during use on smooth surfaces like the kitchen table, allowing for more accessible use for people with restricted dexterity.

Non-Spill Drinking Cups & Beakers

Accessible mugs are ideal for people who suffer from muscular tremors or arthritis. They feature two handles for more stability than standard mugs and cups and a lid or half-lid which controls the flow of the liquid and protects from spillages. There are some models with more specialist features such as the Handsteady Mug which offers a large rotatable handle which lets the mug stay upright when the wrist is at any angle. This allows your wrist to stay in a more natural and comfortable position and will allow for any tremors that might occur. The Clear Nosey Cup features a nose cut-out and is designed to allow you to drink without tilting your head back.
